Jokes Aside, Hilderincs' Defensive Tomfoolery Leaves Them Bamboozled

Heading into the penultimate fixture against British Club in their debut season in the Equatorial Football League with relative confidence, especially after addressing midweek lack in numbers with the inclusion of two Hilderinc Socials, and the late availability of Basil Al Barr and Danzal Han, little would have indicated that recurrent self-wreaking circus had yet to be exorcised.

Despite missing several regulars in key positions, the Hilderincs arrived with a convincing lineup, against a weaken British Club side, and their positive approach to the game was contrary to their now typical passive start.

Quicker of the blocks, the Blacks’ high press was a reminiscence of a better days of not too long ago, and they were given an opportunity to take the lead when debutant Md Razzaq was brought down inside the box in the opening minutes.

Astonishingly, after having had ten penalties awarded against them for as many consecutive days, the Hilderincs would go on and miss three straight spotkick given them when skipper Ian Morris skied his second in a carbon copy manner of his miss against Exiles FC two weeks ago.

Despite the miscue, the Blacks had at least two other chances to race ahead, but playing at this level, it has become an disastrous routine for the Hilderincs to be ruthlessly punished for deficiencies, all so more often, with themselves the architects of their own hardship.

Heading into the break two goals down, there was enough in them to make a contest at the restart, and Nicolo Yang wasted little time to pull a goal back with a well-taken shot to bring the Blacks back into the tie as planned.

However, when plans fail, they fail badly and the Hilderincs, feeling the effects of an expended bench after the injuries to Ian Morris and Fahmy Barker brought it back to the now usual impoverished self, leaving the rest to carry the toil.

But for all the lack and their best efforts at the attacking end, it was the Blacks’ repeated penchant for the weak and inexcusable errors that continue to be their downfall, and it was no different as three further goals have the scoreline a harsh reflection of the proceedings.

With one game left, eyes and thoughts are already set on what happens next, as serious rebuild is already in the process, and will gain increased momentum once the league obligations end in two weeks’ time.
