What should have been a step towards first of their season’s objectives, Hilderinc FC’s preparation for the ESPZEN Saturday League was disrupted when their opponents, Hiadis FC, successfully applied for a postponement of the fixture, leaving the Blacks to occupy themselves with a friendly game instead.

Continuing to showcase their depth, despite missing several starters, the Blacks were in formidable strength was they took on Black Cats FC.

Making five changes to the team that started against FC Hospitality, the Hilderincs handed Sergey Darovskikh his long awaited debut, though the Russian had a taste of Singapore amateur football when he turned up for the Hilderinc Twā last Sunday.

While the money would have been on the Blacks to come off the blocks roaring, it was somewhat a casual start, uncharacteristic of a side known for their early pressing football.

Though the opening charge was from the “home” side, they were unfortunate to find themselves a goal down inside three minutes when Sergey Darovskikh was harshly penalised for a soft handball, which the Cats put away from the spot, though that would be their only meaningful attempt at Liao Jincai in goal.

Jolted, the Blacks response was instantaneous and could have level matters three minutes later through Shiv Tulsani, whose bright header brought an equally fine save from the keeper.

While the Hilderincs were peppering the Cats with several efforts, it took them until the 28th minute to store parity when a freekick from the halfway line by Goh Heng Kiat was played unto the path of Aamir Fikri by Ian Morris and Darren Tan for the young forward to put his shot past a helpless keeper.

Having waited for the leveller, the goal opened the floodgates as the Blacks went riot from then on.

Within four minutes the Hilderinc were ahead through a lovely Shiv Tulsani volley after Kumaresan Maniam’s cornerkick was played into his sights by Aamir Fikri, taking the advantage into the break.

The second half began as the first period ended, with the Hilderincs in the box seat and pressing hard at every opportunity despite an alternation of formation.

Six minutes of the restart the Blacks extended their lead when Nabil Zahrif found the top left-hand corner from outside the box with a Cristian Peligros-tic shot after receiving the ball from the ever impressive Mikael Michalowski.

And it was fitting that the versatile youngster would get his name on the scoresheet with a well-taken half-volley to solidify the Hilderincs’ dominance.

With the Blacks lining up for a pop at goal at every chance, the Black Cats were left hanging, but confidence rising with each foray, there was no let up as they turned up the heat.

Shiv Tulsani was next to show his proficiency with another impression goal, which the forward would claim full credit for.

Not content with stripping any resolve from the opponents, the Hilderincs went from the jugular and completed the rout with two opportunistic but keenly executed goals from Casimir Simon towards the end, a fast becoming a trademark of the big forward.

While the goal count would be the main talking point, the manner of the team display has been a delight for the Blacks, though there are areas for improvement which the Hilderincs will continue to work on as they keep their feet firmed planted as they fix their eyes on the prize.
