From unforced errors, soft penalties against and stonewall ones for denied, unfortunate own goal and to threadbare line-ups, Hilderinc FC’s debut in the ESPZEN Saturday Division 1 has been nothing short of one liken from the pages of the Series of Unfortunate Events.

And to compound the dreadful stuttering start, the worst in the Club’s nineteen year history, the Blacks were left rewriting the unwanted record of their worst league defeat, which was only recently set after their first game of the season, after their awful second half collapse against Saturday Nights Live FC.

Despite decent attendance, though key late withdrawals meant that the Hilderincs were yet again left to reshuffle the initially intended pack, and such lack of consistency with the lineup, as the Blacks have been chopping and changing the personnel every other week, has certainly been one of the main contributor to their perils.

Still missing the entire Iberian and South American contingent, a mainstay in recent seasons, meant that crucial positions were provisionally plugged but not adequately replaced, though the return of Jon Loh to competitive action after his vindictive and hypocritical opponent prompted three match suspension carried forth from last season, levitated some discomfort in an otherwise improvised midfield.

While having started the game sensibly, two uncharacteristic mis-judgements meekly handed the opponents the initiative, and the Hilderincs were only Christopher Mark away from falling out of sight as the Blacks’ keeper pulled off some defiant saves to keep them in the game.

Though they did somewhat threat to hit back through set-pieces, Marc Trotter’s long range attempt which narrowly missed the target was the only notable effort heading into the break.

If the Blacks made a contest of things in the 1st half, they returned from the recess completely out of sorts, and basically allowed SNL to run away with the scoring in an utterly docile display, with the contest was rightly over even before the 60th minute water break.

Having had their egos badly bruised, Hilderinc FC will have to find a way out of this appalling rut, which on many account, may be underserved, but today’s performance will serve as an exception because they had their balls well and truly crashed.
