Blacks Frustrated By Smash and Grab Football

After their feats of last week in the league, Hilderinc FC were handed an annoying day’s reflection when they found themselves, despite their better display, at the wrong end of the scoreline as they fortuitously tripped to a 2-1 loss in a friendly game at Anderson Secondary School.

In the absence of competitive duties, an ostentatiously named opponents were to provide sparring, but as with many teams that play passing football, the Blacks once again had the discomfort of dealing with a tactically lesser side which opt for the launch and rush game, which has always been their perennial Achilles’ Heel as for whatever reasons they tend to leave their usual expansive style which they normally display against equally apt rivals.

Despite their control, the first half was largely forgettable as the Hilderincs were stifled for long periods as they toiled to translate their patchy dominance to anything significant upfront though they kept a chic backline which repellent any speculative attention.

The Blacks were a different proposition after the restart as they upped the ante with their usual confidence and positional pass and move play, coming close to the opener through Sanil Khatri, Nico Olvera and Kiasa Miettinen, who was only yards from her first goal for the Hilderincs.

However, despite their superiority, they found themselves a goal down to a chance attempt from range which creeped into the back of the net, and though annoyed by the manner of the goal, the Hilderincs were further antagonised by crass bolstering of one Cockster who had no sense of differentiating between encouraging and showing contempt to their challengers.

Not faltered, the Hilderincs response was immediate as they drew parity within two minutes through Nico Olvera who smashed in a belter, giving the goalkeeper who chance.

Now besieging the opponents, the Blacks were unfortunate not to surge into the lead after Mohd Erzan dragged his shot inches wide of the post and Nico Olvera was denied by the legs of the man whom he had beaten earlier.

With the Hilderincs increasing the tempo by the waves, it seem that the referee, whom the Blacks were warned of pre-match, had problems keeping with the pace of things as he failed to spot a clear foul on Mohd Erzan in the box, though the forward could have won some sympathies had he went to ground instead of staying on his feet, but that would have been a wishful thinking considering the adroitness of the official.

Verification to the conclusion of the man in the middle, moments later he would penalise the Blacks for picking up a backpass after he confused himself with what was a clearance and an offence.

However, the Hilderincs will have no defence for themselves as they went to sleep, leaving themselves in an undeserved situation.

For all the villainisation for the referee, he did well to spot the slightest of an illegal push on Dionisis Kolokotsas to point to the spot, but having done what he needed to do, Nico Olvera’s penalty was saved by the goalkeeper and the Spaniard was bravely denied a follow up by a defender.

For all their push for a second equaliser, the opponents’ “kick as far as you can and run football” meant that the Blacks were in a constant restart mode and will time on their side, they had to shallow a bitter pill of losing unjustifiably.

However, with priority set firmly for maximum points in the league, the Hilderincs will use these preparation games as opportunities to improve, though they will spend more time on situations involving smash, grab and run teams.
