Hilderincs Left Licking Wounds After Heavy Rout

Three weeks since their last league fixture, and the Hilderinc Twā returned to competitive engagement could not have been any harder than facing league leaders, Sporting Balestier FC at their own pitch with a heavily hotchpotch side, whose matchday numbers were a clear deception of their ragbag collection of players who were either returning to the side after a lengthy absence, injury or plainly thrown into the furnace for a baptism fire prematurely.

With the side still scratching the bottom of the barrel as late as Thursday, the Blacks, decimated by a punishing series of long-term injuries, especially in what has been dubbed the “Curse of the Hilderinc Centrebacks, the matchday list was falsely propped up to have an ebullient stance by late inclusions.

While pre-match concerns about the size of the pitch was vindicated in the opening minutes as Sporting Balestier played their plans well, the Hilderincs, playing with a completely improvised backline, which included a 17year old play in the heart of the defence, one of the two teenagers included in the game, were architect of their own downfall when their recurrent hesitancies were ruthlessly punished, leaving them trailing with a substantial deficiency by half time.

Though the spirit to put on an effort at the restart was sincere, with several volunteering to step in positions unfamiliar, another quick early goal drifted the Blacks further away from any semblance of shelter from a bone-crashing afternoon, and though the dodging of being at the end of a double digital mauling was a pitiable consolation, did does little to the open wounds that need quick curing.

Looking beyond the heavy dark clouds, if there is a sliver lining, it would have been a very thin one at that, with the Hilderincs always looking proficient when they kept the ball on the ground and employed their pass and move football, however, the repeated backsliding to old habits of mirroring their opponents with longballs have been a constant labour for redemption.

With much of the season to go, the hope that good times will return to the Hilderincs is still there, and will continue to persist whatever tribulations may come, as eye are cast on next week’s game.
