Following a three week break and a month since their final league fixture, Hilderinc Football Club returned to action with their first pre-season friendly game against J Team FC at Bedok Green Secondary School.
The Blacks, taking on a side with whom they played out a 1-1 draw back in November 2017, were eager to make a positive start to their preparation for the new campaign, as they gave debuts to teenage goalkeeper, Na Byung Hee and Italian, Matteo Resta, while seasoned campaigners, Mitchell Keh and Partiban Aruchamy added to the strength of a formidable squad.
Early intentions were immediately registered within seconds of the kickoff when Travis Fujii tested the J Team keeper with an early strike.
With objectives set, the Hilderincs were in good command of the tie as they worked the play, with the defenders actively involved in a show of affirmative team display.
Sunny Tharidu, who spent much of last season between the sticks, was reinstated outfield as a deep-laying holding midfield, and with Dionisis Kolokotsas and Goh Heng Kiat, formed a prefect defensive triangle which was imperious in dealing with any attention, with the latter in of his most assured performance in black.
In tandem, it was on offensive trio of Adib Alias, Ian Morris and Xerxes Lee who pried the opponents for the Hilderincs’ opener, with Xerxes playing a neat one two with Ian before cooling picking his spot in the bottom right corner.
The Blacks had a perfect opportunity to double their lead moments later, but Adib Alias’ fine cut back was dreadful blundered by Ian Morris with the goal begging.
However, the skipper made up for his goof with an opportunistic goal after he penalised the J Team goalkeeper from a clanger of his own, stealing the ball between his legs to slot in with calm.
Unrelenting, the Blacks nearly ran riot with an avalanche goals with Adib Alias, Travis Fujii and Danish Saarin coming close.
But there was no denying the Hilderincs their third when a sweet interchange of play between Keifer Zambarno and Mitchell Keh delivered a pinpoint cross for Ian Morris to sweep in for his brace just before the break.
Despite a slew of changes at half time and during the course of the game after the restart, the Blacks were in full control, though the pace was reduced, the industry and flair did not dropped a beat.
Fine pass and move football was the order of the day, and the Blacks were unfortunate not to cap their display with further goals, though they came close on several occasion and certainly deserved more than the three with Mitchell Keh, Matteo Resta, Xerxes Lee and Keifer Zambarno heavliy involved.
While their near perfect day was slightly blemished by a late J Team goal, it was a productive outing for the Hilderincs who will step up the intensity in the coming weeks ahead of the season kickoff in April.
