Hilderinc FC, taking advantage of a break in league commitments, kept in gears with an assured performance against a youthful Galactico B FC side in a significant friendly ahead of the top of the table clash in the ESPZEN Saturday League.
Despite missing several, the Blacks were in good order, though uncharacteristic tardiness had them start the proceeding with one man less, but were undeterred by the temporary adjustments, as they started in good stead, keeping the enthusiastic opponents at arm’s length while awaiting parity in numbers.
It was business as usual once that was achieved and Omar Mahnin provided the first indication of things to come when he put the Blacks ahead, reacting well to an unconventional off the shoulder assist.
Though the Hilderincs were in firm control, they were penalised for an unfortunate handball, which Galactico B took full advantage and equalised from the resultant spotkick.
Moments later the Blacks were awarded a penalty of their own in similar circumstances but Ian Morris’ effort was saved well by the goalkeeper.
However, with the Hilderincs ramping up the endeavour, the lead was imminent and Diogo Baptista provided the inspiration with a cracker from distance.
Taking full advantage the opponent’s rawness, the Blacks make little work breaking through the rearguard and added to the scoreline through debutant Casimir Simon, who worked well with Omar Mahnin and Diogo Baptista to make a memorable bow.
And Diogo, playing only his third game since returning from a three month injury lay-off carried on with his man of the match display last week with a well take brace to give the Hilderincs a commanding lead into the break, though they could have added more had further efforts from Omar and Casimir had found their way pass the post and the Galactico B goalkeeper.
Taking a comfortable lead into the second half, the Blacks took the opportunity to try variations with wider objectives in mind.
It was purposeful display from the Hilderincs, who were in commanding control of the game, and added two more goals through Ian Morris and Casimir Simon, though the former was guilty of a hat-trick of casual finishing, which could have given a more riotous final outcome.
However, with the focus firmly on preparation rather than indulgence, the Blacks will be highly pleased with the displays of the collective group, and though the cast would slightly differ next week, there is a buoyant mood for the formidable encounter.
